Bridesmaid Alterations

A couple of blogs ago I made a shawl for a bride my daughter is going to be a bridesmaid for in a couple of weeks . . . I was told the bridesmaid dress was supposed to arrive three DAYS before the wedding . . . and you need to know nothing my daughter buys in the form of formal wear ever fits properly - she's 5'1" so almost EVERYTHING  has to be shortened.

I was happy to find out it arrived on Thursday last week so had time to alter - she tried it on for me on Friday (it's a Vera Wang) and as per usual it's too long; AND we aren't sure we LOVE the sash ... it's black and flimsy (but it's a Vera) . . . so I suggested maybe a grey one to match the dress . . . she'd consider it if I make it but I'm not supposed to be disappointed if she doesn't like it . . . well we'll see about that . . .

So I made a detour to my favourite fabric store (without the dress - forgot the damn thing at home) and "guessed" at the colour . . . WRONG . . . way too light . . . so I made another ring bearer pillow!  This one is a piece of shiney satin again covered in grey netting and stuffed.  The flower is made out of the shiney side of the fabric.

Back to the fabric store this time with dress in hand and I ended up with the right colour now she just has to like it as much as I do . . .

Here she is "before" alterations

Here she is with it pinned and a better black sash (the one on the right the sash is folded in half)

and here she is with alterations completed in the grey sash . . . I think she looks gorgeous! and she loves the grey and I love it because she loves it . . .

Oh and she left with the flower for her hair! Whether she wears it on the day of the wedding is up to her and the bride!

TOTAL COST:  Alterations - FREE - I'm her mother
TOTAL TIME:  1 hour for the pillow; 1 hour for the alterations; 1 hour for the sash
